Planit a Modular Wood Building
Wednesday 14 May 2008
Eco-Friendly and Versatile Option
Combining eco-friendly materials with the conveniente of modular building, Planit is the latest product in the Living line to be introduced by European wood products manufacturer Pircher Oberland. Created through a working partnership with the innovative architecture and functional design of Studio Bestetti Associates, Planit provides versatility and high-end design alongside the ease and quick assembly that can only be found in prefabricated structures.
Planit takes prefabricated modules to a new level by introducing energy-efficient design and PEFC-certified sustainable and pollutionfree materials that not only exude luxury, but also pay careful attention to functional needs. Modular, versatile and quick to assemble, Planit offers maximum architectural freedom for uses ranging from private homes to offices to shops to spas.
Eco-friendly function combined with modern design aesthetics
Constructed primarily from wood and glass, Planit boasts excellent thermal regulation while maximizing natural light. The versatile modules are insulated completely with tested, certified and technologically advanced natural materials that reduce energy consumption to a bare minimum.
The wood used is PEFC (www.pefc.org) certified: it comes exclusively from forests in which controlled cutting is practiced, where trees are selected according to the principles of sustainable forest management and where harvesting is accompanied by replanting initiatives in order to guarantee the conservation of biodiversity. The manufacturer, Pircher Oberland SpA, has been granted ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system.
In addition, the laminated wood used in the structures is produced with environmentally friendly polyurethane glue that creates zero emissions and is completely free of formaldehyde fumes.
Advanced construction techniques and materials
Measuring 250 cm x 250, 500 or 750 cm, with a height of 270 or 300 cm on the inside, Planit modules are built with a supporting frame structure made from laminated wood and insulated with natural materials to guarantee optimal thermal and acoustic performance. All heating and cooling systems are either already built-in or incorporated during the assembly phase.
The underlying foundations are composed of plinths or edge beams made from concrete and are strong enough to support the underside of the module made of pressure-impregnated laminated wood. This type of structure allows Planit to be placed on any type of surface (when in compliance with local building permits).
The interior walls are pre-manufactured and covered with plaster fibre board installed during the assembly phase. The exterior walls are fitted with ventilated panels finished with pressureimpregnated rhomboidal pine boarding that directs rainwater downward. The flat roof has been designed to support a roof garden for additional eco-friendly options.
Planit can be shipped by truck and assembled with the assistance of a truck-mounted crane or standard construction crane. In many cases, it is delivered with a few months from confirmation of the architectural plan.
Finishing elements continue efficient design
The gutters and drain pipes, intended to handle rainwater, are perfectly integrated into the overall Planit design. The exterior façade features alternating wood and glass walls, or other surfaces depending on the needs of the owner.
The window frames are made from aluminium and hold double paned windows with appropriate spacing and dimensions to insubre optimal insulation. The window frame, naturally, is burglar-proof and the glass has been reinforced to guarantee maximum security. The exterior flooring is composed of a substructure made from pressure-impregnated laminated wood over which large non-slip boards have been placed.
As a modular structure with versatile uses, Planit combines the best of high-quality beautiful design, environmental sustainability, function and convenience.
