The Armani/Casa Collection for 2007/2008

Tuesday 1 April 2008
"For Him/For Her"
Him and Her. Atmosphere, nuances, patterns and chromatic effects reflecting two different but nevertheless complementary approaches to experiencing and perceiving the home – through the eyes of a Man and a Woman.

The story of these two imaginary characters unfolds through the pairing of materials, colours, decorative effects and textile weaves. In place of the classic counter pointing of male and female colour preferences, Armani/Casa juxtaposes shades and associations that merge into one another emphasizing deliberate crossovers and interconnections, rather than rigid dichotomies and conventions.

Tones of champagne, platinum and pearl for Her rooms, and of grey, satin metal and black nickel for His areas; Armani/Casa explores an elegant sequence of effects presented in a wide choice of textures and shapes, and applied to pieces with a broad range of functions. The fabrics – with their distinctive weaves and graphic motifs – assume the star role in this collection, displaying their highly decorative elements, derived and evolved from the Armani fashion collection, through a series of moods and aesthetic styles. Delicate graphics and curving lines are set alongside more rigorous motifs and geometric patterns such as chevrons and lozenges in a three dimensional optical effect. The textile weaves provide a fashionable wardrobe for the furniture and accessories serving to convey the different male and female environments.

These alternating His/Her themes are clearly apparent at the outset, in the made to measure walk-in wardrobe, Amleto. Its dual potential is clearly apparent in the choice of internal fittings, designed for a Man or a Woman with their own specific requirements during the ritual of daily dressing. For example, the shoe rack for Her is vertically designed to reveal all her different footwear models at a glance, while the shoe rack for Him is more rational and restrained, located within the extractable footboard, revealing the shoes perfectly lined up side by side in a row.
The broad sliding doors (75 cm) come in double glass panels framed in aluminium with a vinyl fabric inner insert to impart an opulent and sophisticated look. The basic unit comprises four panels for a total width of 300 cm, but this piece can be built to measure to suit any room. The interior of the cupboard is entirely clad in beige techno fabric.
Every detail of this unit (such as the shelves, the pull out hanging system and the mirrors on the internal side panels) is designed for maximum convenience and practicality. The 60 cm interval between the panels and the outer frame provides a greater level of functionality and, above all, the chance to create a form of “personal window display” by pulling out drawer and hanging units to put together the “look for the day” by comparing possible outfits. This piece has total versatility and is something to enjoy every day, a perfect means of self-expression.

The relaxing / night zone of the home is expanded to include newcomers to the Armani/Casa collection such as the Amadeus bed, distinguished by its embracing padded headboard. A new and totally feminine star of the collection is the Antoinette dressing table. When closed it looks like a large cylinder clad in an opulent champagne colour fabric. When open it reveals its role as a dressing table with mirror, top with drawer clad in mother of pearl effect material, and matching seat that reprises the same curved line, so as to achieve a single entity with the dressing table when closed. The Antoinette is a stunning geometric creation – a cylinder which opens out to form a functional and mobile item.

The living zone is also enriched by new additions in a soft and enveloping style, like the new chaise longue Adriana, with its appealing and unique asymmetric line.

Armani/Casa’s meticulous pursuit of unexpected material pairings assumes a radical and innovative dimension with a series of ideas never before encountered in the world of furniture. Surfaces are “dressed” in special textures such as spatula finish metal (Winchester screen), or satin finish steel, as exemplified by the rigorous and charismatic desk Adelchi where the metal plates are applied one by one to the surface to create a patchwork effect that is both highly tactile and opulent at the same time.
While Adelchi is undoubtedly suited to His study, the Aida desk is undoubtedly for Her, with its lighter structure in black satin metal featuring inserts in gilt lizard print leather.
More supremely feminine and utterly original finishes figure in the Argo storage unit, with panels clad in a stone laminate revealing its natural veining and intrinsic colour, in strong contrast to the interior clad in a mother of pearl material.

More iridescent finishes appear on precious woods such as smoked oak for the new square version of the Rossini table, with details in black nickel, or straw textured wood for the new version of the Oreste side table, or “mud effect” for the latest design of the Guapo system for the bathroom: an advanced varnishing technique that imparts an unprecedented look to one of the stars of the permanent Armani/Casa collection.

The commitment to stylistic purity that permeates the whole collection is complemented by a meticulous approach to decoration and traditional craftsmanship that transforms every single item into a jewel of furniture, making it as special as a piece of Haute Couture.
Accessories are equally magnificent, whether they are decorative objets or from the exclusive new tableware collections as the new line of gilt cutlery. The pursuit of the unique continues through such fine additions as the new range of boxes and containers in rock crystal with lids in Hawk’s Eye stone.

Every star in this collection is a unique piece with its own strong identity, intended to stand alone or in harmony with other styles. Armani/Casa is “Made to measure” for a Woman and for a Man who regard themselves, above all, as unique individuals, and who consequently delight in expressing themselves as such in their own homes.
